Madhya Pradesh News: One person died after the wall of a polling station collapsed after polling began on Saturday for the first phase of three-tier panchayat elections in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district. The deceased has been identified as Raja Kushwaha. He was sitting at a polling booth in Tikha village in Satna district when a wall collapsed. Police said Kushwaha was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Sub-inspector injured in scuffle at polling station
There have also been reports of violent incidents from some polling stations. A scuffle broke out between the two parties at a polling station in Gwalior-Chambal division. At the same time, in another incident in Damoh district, a sub-inspector (SI) was injured in a clash between two groups at a polling booth. According to reports, the incident took place when SI Inderjit Choudhary, who was on duty at the polling station, pushed a voter, which enraged the villagers. After this, the local people created a ruckus at the polling station. Police called in additional forces to control the crowd after which the situation was brought under control and polling continued peacefully.
Voting continues amidst heavy security
According to the Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission (MP-SEC), 52,000 police personnel have been deployed at polling stations to ensure free and fair elections. Counting of votes will take place at the polling station itself immediately after the polling is over.
