Agneepath Shceme: The Center has outlined the possibilities of many employment opportunities for the Agniveer soldiers after their retirement. These mainly include the priorities of recruitment in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Assam Rifles. This announcement of the Center failed to address the concerns of the opposition party Congress.

The party warned that the transformative Agneepath plan would reduce the operational effectiveness of the armed forces. A day earlier, the main opposition party had expressed serious concern about the future of these soldiers. In fact, most of them will retire after just four years of brief service.

Agniveer will be the name of the recruitment process
In a radical change in the decades-old defense recruitment process, the government on Tuesday announced the ‘Agneepath’ scheme for the recruitment of soldiers in the Army, Navy and Air Force. Under which the recruitment of soldiers will be done on contract basis for a short period of four years. Under the scheme, about 46,000 soldiers will be recruited in the three services this year. The eligibility age for selection will be between 17 and a half years to 21 years and they will be named as Agniveer.

Home Minister Amit Shah’s office said in a tweet on Wednesday that the Agneepath scheme is a visionary and welcome step by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a bright future for the youth of the country. His office said that in this regard, the Ministry of Home Affairs today decided that Agniveers who have completed four years under this scheme will be given priority in the recruitment of CAPFs and Assam Rifles.

With this decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the youth trained under the ‘Agneepath’ scheme under the guidance of the Prime Minister will be able to contribute further in the service and security of the country. The tweet said that the work of preparing a detailed plan on the decision has been started. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the soldiers recruited under Agneepath scheme will be given preference in the recruitment of Madhya Pradesh Police. Welcoming this scheme, Chouhan said that such jawans who would have served in the Agneepath scheme, they will be given priority in the recruitment of Madhya Pradesh Police.

However, the Congress attacked the government over this plan. Party leader Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet that when India is in danger on two fronts then there is no need for this Agneepath scheme which reduces the efficiency of our armed forces. The BJP government should stop compromising with the dignity, tradition, valor and discipline of our security forces.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also attacked the government and questioned why the BJP government is making army recruitment as its laboratory. Meanwhile, keeping in mind the future career prospects of Agniveers, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has decided to start a skill-based three-year undergraduate degree program for such defense personnel. Officials said the degree programs offered by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) would be recognized for employment and education both in India and abroad.

He said that the Army, Navy and Air Force will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IGNOU for the implementation of this scheme. At the same time, the Army said that it will recruit 40,000 soldiers in the coming months. Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen BS Raju told PTI that the Indian Army will recruit 25,000 Agniveers in the next 180 days. The recruitment process for the remaining 15,000 ‘Agniveers’ will start after a month. He told that the recruitment drive will be conducted in all 773 districts of the country.
