Ahmedabad News: The Go First flight from Ahmedabad to Chandigarh was forced to return soon after taking off on Thursday after a bird collided with it. A320 aircraft operating flight G8911 took off from Ahmedabad at 6.18 am. The plane was flying at about 14,000 feet and completed a circuit and had to land back in Ahmedabad an hour later. Director General of Civil Aviation Arun Kumar said the left type engine is likely to be hit. “Air turn back is being investigated.” At present, GoFirst’s statement is awaited.

Cases that have come to the fore in the past
A large number of birds collide at the Ahmedabad airport, although this number had come down in the last two years as air traffic decreased during the Covid period. However, the number of bird hits reported at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport was high. For example, between January and July 2019, more than 15 such cases have been reported at the said airport.

Several steps have been taken to reduce such incidents.
A large number of them were forced to return after being hit by a bird. To reduce the number of these incidents, the airport at that time procured special mowers that cut grass so that traces of insects and their larvae would not remain on the ground for the birds to eat. In addition to the traditional methods used by a team of bird chasers, specialized acoustic equipment including zone guns, hooters and six-shot launchers were also used.
