Assam Govt To Shut 34 Schools: The Assam government has...

Assam Govt To Shut 34 Schools: The Assam government has taken a strict decision against the schools for the failure of all the students in the 10th board. The government has identified 34 such schools, where not a single child has passed in the 10th board. The Government of Assam has decided to close these schools. The government says that it cannot waste the hard earned money of taxpayers on schools giving zero results. This year only 56.49 per cent children have been able to pass in the 10th board examination of the state of Assam. This has been the worst performance in the board exam since the year 2018. State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu is very angry with this performance of the schools.

Why is the education minister of Assam angry?

It is noteworthy that the schools which gave zero results in the 10th board are on the target of the Assam government. State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has even spoken about not wasting money on these schools. Out of around 1,000 students of these 34 government schools, not a single student has been able to clear the Class X state board exams held in March this year. Angry Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that it is futile to spend taxpayers’ money on schools giving zero results.

He said, “The primary duty of schools is to provide education. If a school cannot ensure that its students pass the Class X examination, then there is no point in continuing these schools.” Education Minister Pegu said, “The government cannot spend public money on schools with zero success records.” Education Minister Pegu warned that even schools with declining enrollment would be merged with nearby institutions. He said that around 2,500 such schools are under the scanner.

State schools repeat the poor record of five years ago

The education ministry of the state has based the performance of the schools five years ago for this strict action. The 10th board result this year is the same as the poor result five years ago in the year 2018. In the year 2018, the pass percentage of 10th board was 56.04. The pass percentage of 10th board this year is 56.49. Of the 4 lakh children who appeared for the 10th board exams this year, only half have passed.

It is worth noting that this year in 2022, 419887 students had registered themselves in the Assam Board 10th examination, in which a total of 4,05,582 students took the examination. This year, in 34 schools of the state, the 10th result was zero, while in 68 schools the pass percentage was less than 10 percent. This is the reason why the government is going to close these zero result schools. But considering the future of the students studying in these schools, they will be given a chance to take admission in the nearby high schools.

The reason for the failure of the children of Kovid and the negligence of the teachers

On the other hand, the officials of the Education Department of Assam are holding the Kovid epidemic accountable for the poor results and disappointing performance of the students. He said that along with the problems caused by Kovid, teachers of many schools did not pay full attention to the students. It was also said that after last year’s formula-based assessment, this year there has been a massive 40 per cent drop in the number of students passing out due to direct sitting in the classrooms.

Strong reaction of political parties on closure of schools

The decision of the Assam government to close the schools has also drawn a sharp reaction from political parties across the country. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “School closure is not the solution. We just need to open many new schools across the country. Instead of closing the school, reform the school and make the education right.”

Assam government took help from IIT Guwahati

The Assam government recently took help from faculty members of IIT Guwahati to train teachers who performed below standards. According to Mamta Hojai, the Director of Secondary Education here, there is a plan to merge all zero performing schools with neighboring schools by this academic year.

He says that after such shocking results, there is no reason to allow these schools to function. Hojai said that the process of integration of four such schools has already started. The students and teachers here will be shifted to nearby secondary schools, he said. On the other hand, another official said that the school inspectors of every district have been asked to prepare a roadmap to ensure smooth and smooth transfer.

Karbi Anglong tops the poor performance

Karbi Anglong district tops among the zero result schools in the state. Here are the maximum 7 schools giving zero results. This is followed by five each in other districts Cachar and Jorhat, two each in Dhubri, Goalpara, Lakhimpur and Nagaon. Chirang, Darang, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Nalbari, Hailakandi and West Karbi Anglong districts have one zero result school each.
