Sikh History: The Punjab Police has registered a case against the authors of three history books, which were recently banned for allegedly misrepresenting facts related to Sikh history. The Punjab School Education Board had earlier this month banned the related books of class 12 and after that this step has been taken against the authors. In the matter, Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair had said that action would be taken against the writers.

Farmer leader Baldev Singh Sirsa wrote Manjit Singh Sodhi, author of ‘Modern ABC of History of Punjab’, Mahinder Pal Kaur, author of ‘History of Punjab’ and ‘History of Punjab’. A complaint was made against the writer MS Mann, after which a case was registered at the Mohali police station.

Books banned on the basis of the report of the inquiry committee
These books were published by three different publishers of Jalandhar. Based on the report of the inquiry committee, it was decided to ban these books. This committee was formed after the complaint of Sirsa. Sirsa had said in his complaint that there are some things in the books which are not in accordance with Sikh history.

Punjab Education Minister had spoken of action against writers
Earlier on May 1, Punjab Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet had said that action would be taken against authors and publishers who allegedly distorted facts related to Sikh history in these books. He had further said, Sikh history is invaluable for all of us and for the generations to come. Incorrect facts related to Sikh history were presented in class 12th book titled ‘History of Punjab’. The minister had said that the main objective of the government is to provide good education to the students and make them aware of the history of Gurus, Sikh world and Punjab.
