Naxal Affected Areas: The Center is considering the possibility of setting up a night helicopter operation facility in the Naxal-affected areas of Jharkhand, so that the deployment and evacuation of security forces can be done faster. Jharkhand along with Chhattisgarh are included in the Naxal-affected states where a large number of central security personnel are deployed along with the state police.

Home Ministry officials held a meeting
Officials said that the Union Home Ministry officials had recently held a consultation meeting for setting up of new forward operational bases and camps to assist the central agencies for the Left Wing Extremism Management (ACALWEM) scheme. He said that after this the next meeting was held with the representatives of Jharkhand government in which the possibility of developing the facility of helicopter operation at night was discussed.

Rapid deployment of forces in emergency situations by helicopter
Officials further said that the facility to operate the helicopter at night will help the authorities in faster deployment and evacuation of forces in case of emergency. He said, the Ministry of Home Affairs also held two meetings with the district magistrates to review the progress of the Special Central Assistance (SCA) scheme in Left Extremism-affected areas.

It is noteworthy that last year Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that the Maoist violence in the state is limited to only four areas. Soren said that these four areas are Parasnath Pahar, Buddha Pahar, Chaibasa-Saraikela-Khunti-Tri Junction and some areas of the border with Bihar under Kolhan Division. According to official figures, there were 196 incidents of Naxal violence in the year 2016, which came down to 126 in the year 2020. Similarly, in the year 2016, 61 common people were killed in Maoist violence, while in the year 2020 this number was 28.
