Congress CWC Meet: The future will tell how much the Congress will be transformed by the Chintan Shivir, which is going to be held in Udaipur from May 13 to 15, but some big changes are bound to happen in the party. According to information received from the sources, Congress can implement the formula of ‘one family one ticket’. Apart from this, the rule of ‘one person one post’ can also be made.
Dalits, tribals, minorities and women should be given 50 percent share in Congress committees and the tenure of Congress committees can be fixed for 3 years. All these proposals have been prepared by the Organization Affairs Committee formed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi in view of the Chintan Shivir. This was discussed in the Congress Working Committee meeting on Monday. These changes will be stamped after extensive discussion in Udaipur.
According to a senior Congress leader and member of the organization committee, special provision will be made in the rule of ‘one family one ticket’ for those leaders who have been working for the organization for at least five years. That is, despite the rule of ‘one family one ticket’, more than one person from the Congress high command i.e. Gandhi family will be able to contest elections.
According to the source, this rule is being brought for those sons and daughters of leaders who have parachute entry at the time of elections, but if any leader is active in the organization other than the family, then it cannot be ignored. Overall, it seems to be an attempt to get rid of the allegations of familyism leveled by the BJP on the Congress.
Congress could not talk with Prashant Kishor, but the effect of his suggestions given to Congress is visible. It is also proposed to devolve the responsibility of election management to a general secretary with special focus on elections.
According to the information received from the sources, it is proposed to appoint one observer each in each Lok Sabha constituency, who will report directly to the general secretary election management. Similarly, observers can also be made for the assembly elections in the states. There is a proposal to have a cooling off period of three years after holding the key post. Along with this, serious consideration is being given to re-activating the Congress Parliamentary Board.
Congress leaders have high hopes from Chintan Shivir. About 400 delegates will participate in it, from party high command to all national office bearers, state president, legislature party leaders, students, youth and women’s Congress office-bearers.
Addressing the meeting of the Working Committee, Sonia Gandhi appealed to the leaders for discipline and solidarity and said that the Chintan Shivir should not be a mere ritual. He said that it is time to repay the party’s debt. It has to be seen that which path the Congress finds for itself through the brainstorming of the Chintan Shivir.
