Tulika Maan Wins Silver: Indian female judo player Tulika Maan won silver in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. He won this medal in the +78kg weight category. She was a contender for gold but she lost to Sarah Adlingt of Scotland in the final. However, the struggle and circumstances that Tulika went through to win silver in Birmingham is an example in itself.

Actually, Tulika’s father Satbir Mann was shot dead in his childhood. In such a situation, the entire responsibility of his upbringing fell on mother Amrita Singh alone. Amrita is a sub-inspector in Delhi Police. In the midst of her busy job, Amrita left no stone unturned in the upbringing of Tulika. She always raised the spirits of her daughter. This was also the reason that Tulika waved the flag in the Commonwealth Games.

First of all, Amrita Singh got her daughter to join a judo class for self-defense. Later, Tulika’s passion for this game was nurtured in such a way that along with her studies, she started winning medals in many tournaments from state to national and then international.

Tulika Mann won the bronze medal in the Asian Open in 2019. Earlier in 2018, she has also won the Commonwealth Championship held in Jaipur. In 2017, Tulika participated in the World Championships for the first time in Budapest. Tulika, 23, is currently a third year BA student at Gurukul PG College, Gorakhpur.

India got three medals so far in Judo
Tulika’s medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games is India’s third medal in judo. Before him, Sushila Devi Likmabam and Vijay Kumar Yadav have won medals for India in Judo. Sushila Devi Likmabam won the silver medal in the 48 kg weight category of judo on the fourth day of the Commonwealth Games. Sushila had missed the gold from very close. At the same time, Vijay Kumar Yadav gave India a bronze medal in Judo. He lost to Australia’s Joshua in the quarter-finals in the men’s 60kg category. After this, he got a chance in the repechage matches and here he won the bronze medal.
