Coronavirus Vaccine: The Expert Panel of the Drug Regulatory Authority (DPA) regarding the Kovid vaccine will review the application of Serum Institute of India today. Serum Institute had sought approval for emergency use of Covovax to children aged two to seven years and seven to 11 years of age.
Serum Institute of India (SII) had made two applications to the government and regulatory affairs director Prakash Kumar Singh on March 16 and June 1. Subsequently, in its last meeting in April, the panel of experts had asked the Serum Institute of India to provide more data on its application seeking emergency use of Kovovax on children aged seven to 11 years. The Drugs Controller General of India on December 28 approved Kovovax for restricted use in emergency situations in adults. On March 9, the DCGI had also given its approval for the use of Kovovax in the age group of 12 to 17 years with certain conditions.

In India, vaccination of children in the age group of 12-14 was started on 16 March. The nationwide vaccination campaign for the prevention of corona was started on 16 January last year. Under this campaign, health workers were first vaccinated in the first phase of vaccination. At the same time, the vaccination campaign of frontline workers was started from February 2.
The next phase of the Kovid-19 vaccination was started from March 1 last year, covering people aged 45 years and above in certain circumstances. In India, vaccination started for all people above the age of 45 years from 1st April in the year 2021. It then decided to expand its vaccination campaign by allowing everyone over the age of 18 to be vaccinated against the viral disease from May 1 last year. The next phase of vaccination began on January 3 for adolescents in the age group of 15-18.
