BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missiles: India is continuously increasing its military capability. In this episode, the Government of India has decided to provide a dual-role BrahMos missile for deployment on warships. This will greatly increase the strength of the Indian Navy.

The Defense Ministry on Thursday signed an agreement worth Rs 1700 crore with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for the supply of high-range BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the frontline warships of the Indian Navy.

Brahmos is a very lethal cruise missile

BrahMos is considered to be the world’s fastest and most lethal cruise missile. This lethal missile was first tested on 12 June 2001. The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was first test-fired from a land-based launcher at Chandipur. Since that time, it has been upgraded several times in its journey of nearly 21 years.

What is the specialty of BrahMos cruise missile?

The BrahMos cruise missile has been tested for surface to surface, land to sea and vice versa sea to land, air to sea and land launch. This is a very lethal missile. Initially, the range of this missile was only up to 290 km, but at present its range has been increased to 300-400 km. These missiles have advanced range and dual role capability for ground as well as anti-ship attacks. This missile is capable of hitting a speed of 2.8 Mach i.e. 3000 km per hour.

How is the name ‘Brahmos’ got?

The BrahMos missile is included in the three wings of the Indian Army. The BrahMos missile has been developed under a joint venture between Russia and India. The name of this missile is named after Brahmos, India’s Brahmaputra River and Russia’s Moskva River. There are two types of these missiles. First ballistic and second cruise. Work is going on on a longer-range variant of this missile.
