IAC Vikrant Aircraft Carrier: The strength of the Indian Navy will soon increase further. The country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier IAC Vikrant will be inducted into the Indian Navy on 2 September. It has been prepared at a cost of about 20 thousand crores. This IAC Vikrant is an indigenously built ship. It is quite big in size. PM Narendra Modi will commission it in the Indian Navy.
IAC Vikrant has been developed by Cochin Shipyard Limited. The warship of the same name played a very important role in the 1971 war. This aircraft carrier was named IAC Vikrant in his honor.
What is the specialty of IAC Vikrant?
The country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier IAC Vikrant is all set for commissioning. This is a completely indigenous warship. Talking about its size, its length is 262 meters, while its width is 60 meters. Its weight is about 45 thousand tons. It has more than 2300 compartments, which can accommodate 1700 people. It has 8 generators of electricity. A very modern hospital has also been built in this warship with all facilities. Apart from this, there is also a kitchen arrangement for cooking food for hundreds of soldiers. There are many automatic machines in the kitchen. About 76 percent indigenous material has been used in this vessel. There is a separate cabin for women officers.
Strength of IAC Vikrant?
IAC Vikrant has the power to carry 30 fighter jets and helicopters simultaneously. It has four gas turbine engines, which will give power of 88 MW. The maximum speed of this warship is 28 nautical miles. Apart from MiG-29K fighter jets, Kamov-31 helicopters, MH-60R multi-role helicopters will also be deployed on this. IAC Vikrant has also been equipped with BrahMos missile. The flight deck of Vikrant is about the size of 2 football fields. There is a Damage Control Center on this warship, from where vigilance will be taken regarding accidents caused by fire or water. This vessel is capable of covering a distance of 7500 nautical miles in one go.
How did the name Vikrant come about?
IAC Vikrant has been prepared by Cochin Shipyard Limited at a cost of about 20 thousand crores. This warship has been designed by the in-house Directorate of Naval Design (DND) of the Indian Navy. Earlier, IANS Vikrant was an aircraft carrier with Russia, which played a very important role in the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. It has now been retired, but in honor of this and to remember its achievements, the new aircraft carrier built in the country has also been named Vikrant.
