Delhi News: A Delhi government committee set up to revise the fares of auto-rickshaws and taxis in Delhi may recommend a proportionate increase in fares in relation to the rise in CNG prices in the national capital. Sources gave this information on Tuesday.
Some auto and taxi unions have expressed concern over the possible hike in fares saying it will further increase their competition with cab service companies that offer rides at concessional rates and also shared their concerns with the committee.
Committee may submit report by this week
Amid rising fuel prices, the Delhi government last month constituted a committee to revise the fares of auto-rickshaws and taxis here. The committee is likely to finalize its report by the end of this week.
A source said, “For the last 15 days, officials have been roaming around in Delhi in auto-rickshaws and taxis to know the demands of the drivers and their expectations from the fare revision exercise.” This is being done to get the feedback (of the drivers) as they are the major stakeholders.
These people are included in the committee
The deadline for submitting the report ends this week. The source said that the committee has to finalize its report soon. The Fare Revision Committee is headed by the Special Commissioner (State Transport Authority).
Other members of the committee include Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Controller of Accounts, two designated district transport officers and a technical expert. The committee also includes members of the civic body, including representatives of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA), passengers and students.
