Delhi Metro News: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is considering increasing the speed of the Metro on the Airport Express Line. The process for this has also started. It is expected that within a year, the metro will start filling the corridor at an average speed of 120 kmph. After this, passengers will be able to reach Terminal 3 Metro Station of Indira Gandhi International Airport from New Delhi Railway Station in just 15 minutes. At present, it takes 19 minutes to cover this distance.

The length of the Airport Express Line between New Delhi to Dwarka Sector 21 is 22.7 km. There are 6 metro stations on the Airport Express Line namely New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan, Aerocity Airport Terminal 3 and Dwarka Sector 21. The permitted speed of the corridor is 90 kmph. At the same time, this metro runs at an average speed of 80 km per hour.

What is the time taken to travel between New Delhi to Airport Terminal-1
It takes about 19 minutes to travel 19.4 km from New Delhi to Airport Terminal-3 by Metro. According to DMRC, this corridor has been constructed for the operation of high speed metro. Hence the permitted speed on the Airport Express Line can be 135 per hour. Then the metro will be able to run at an average speed of 120 km per hour.

Metro speed will be increased in a phased manner
DMRC also said that the speed of the metro on the corridor will be increased phase wise. For this, first the tension clamp of the track will be changed to make it a tension clamp of high frequency. After this, many devices will be installed on the track to monitor the speed of the metro. After this happens, initially the speed of the metro will be kept at 100 kmph. After monitoring for one month, the speed will be 110 km and after that next month it will be 110 km. This process will be on trial for six months. According to DMRC, after the trial and approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety, passengers will be able to enjoy the journey in the metro running at a speed of 120 kmph.
