Delhi MLA Salary Hike: It is rarely seen when the people of power and opposition together express support in one voice on any issue. But today something similar was seen in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, when the people of power and opposition unanimously agreed to a resolution and the proposal was passed without any ruckus. The issue was about increasing the salary of MLAs.
In fact, on the first day of the Delhi Assembly session, a resolution was moved in the House to increase the salary of MLAs, in which it was said that the salary of MLAs has not increased for 11 years and now necessary increase should be made in it. After which today the salary of MLAs has been increased by 66 percent in the assembly. After passing this proposal, now the MLAs will get 90 thousand rupees per month, which till now the legislators were getting only 54 thousand rupees per month.
12 to 18 thousand salary
The Union Home Ministry signed the wage hike in the first week of May, after which a bill was brought to amend it. Earlier, the MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party had asked for a significant increase in the salary in 2015 as well, but the Center rejected this demand and according to the new salary slab that has come, the salary that a Delhi MLA used to get earlier was 12 thousand. Now 18 thousand has been done.
allowances increased with salary
At the same time, the assembly allowance has been increased from 18 thousand to 25 thousand, the vehicle allowance has been increased from 6 thousand to 10 thousand rupees. Telephone allowance to MLAs has been increased from Rs.8,000 to Rs.10,000. Secretariat allowance has now been increased from 10 thousand to 15 thousand. That is, now the MLAs of Delhi Assembly will get 90 thousand from 54 thousand to 90 thousand including allowance. Along with this, the salary of the Chief Minister and Ministers has also been increased from 20 thousand to 60 thousand.
bjp leader demanded increase every year
Regarding this proposal, BJP MLA Anil Vajpayee has demanded to increase the salary of the MLAs every year. Anil Bajpai said that ‘no matter what our internal differences may be, but on the issue of salary increase, we have always supported the proposal of increase. The salary of us MLAs has been increased from 12 thousand to 30 thousand, which is very less, it should be at least 50 thousand. Till now we used to get 1 thousand rupees per meeting, which has been done 1500, it should be at least 2 thousand. After retirement, the pension of Delhi MLAs is also very less, it is only 7500, it should be at least 50 thousand. A proposal to increase the salary of MLAs should come every year.
Central government has already given support: Leader of Opposition Ramveer Vidhuri
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Ramveer Vidhuri also supported the proposal but questioned the Delhi government and said that why the government promised to provide additional facilities to the MLAs is not being fulfilled, while for this the central government has been asked. No need to even take permission.
Ramveer Vidhudi said that the Central Government has approved to increase the salary from 12 thousand to 30 thousand. Which has been passed in the assembly, now it will go to the central government. The central government has already given permission on this, so our party is supporting it.
Ramveer Vidhuri says that ‘we have also given some suggestions like 2 employees have been given to assist an MLA, who are given 15 thousand salary, which is not even minimum salary. Their salary should be increased and their number should also be increased to 4. 4 civil volunteers should also be given. Ramveer Vidhuri took a jibe at the Delhi government and said that first they should fulfill their promises. You question the central government, now the central government has given permission, but this government is not fulfilling the things that the ruling party had asked to give to the legislators, while there is no need to take permission from the central government for this.
At present, all five bills to increase the salary of MLAs, Ministers, Speaker of the Assembly, Chief Vip and Leader of Opposition have been passed by voice vote in the Assembly. At present, it is also an important fact that in 1993, when the Delhi Legislative Assembly was formed, the salary of MLAs was increased 5 times till 2011, but after that the salary of MLAs is now 11. Increasing after years.
