New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena today reviewed the works and progress of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Expressing his concern that the reports of more than 20,000 cases are still pending, he directed the officers to take necessary steps to enhance all kinds of technical and human capacity to solve this problem so that the pending cases are disposed of. be done as soon as possible.

Taking cognizance of various technical posts lying vacant, Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena instructed to fill them at the earliest. He directed that the retired technical personnel from other agencies/organizations like FSL should be reinstated immediately on an interim and temporary basis so that the pending cases can be settled and their reports can be submitted. He said that not looking at FSL as just a government department, let’s look at it from a different point of view, because on it depends not only the delivery of justice but the lives and hopes of thousands of other people.

Officers do their duty
The Lieutenant Governor asked the officers to fulfill their responsibility so that those whose future depends on the evidence provided by them, they get justice in time. He directed that all SOPs and procedures be followed carefully and automated systems with technology capability should be used to the maximum so that human intervention which encourages corruption is minimized.

LG will monitor the progress
The Lt Governor emphasized that he will personally monitor the progress and disposal of all pending cases. The Lt Governor sought a list of all such cases, in which the pending cases came to the FSL for the first time and the time by which they would be disposed of should be detailed. On being informed that in many cases the delay is also due to non-collection of final report by the police. The Lieutenant Governor assured that he will find a solution to this issue at the earliest by holding a meeting with the Chief Secretary and the Commissioner of Police.

The Lt Governor called for establishing FSL as a resource center of excellence and repute in the field of forensic sciences, developing training modules for policemen of different levels as well as forensic science students from various universities/institutions across the country. To provide quality internship facility to the students. To further strengthen the institute, the Lt Governor advised the officials to tie up with reputed institutes like IIT-Delhi and National Forensic Science University, Ahmedabad.

The LG said that this would not only help in enhancing the quality of FSL Delhi, but would also help in getting the latest technical expertise required in dealing with cases related to cyber forensics. He also directed that the possibility of collaboration and tie-up with institutions like FSL in SAARC and ASEAN countries should also be explored.

Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena suggested FSL to make available its expertise to common people and industries to increase internal resources and achieve self-reliance. The meeting was also attended by the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Delhi and Director of FSL, among others.
