Digital Rape Case: Police arrested an 81-year-old painter from Noida, adjoining Delhi, in a case of sexual harassment. This is a case of a different kind of sexual harassment, after which the word digital rape has come in the headlines. The painter who has been arrested has been identified as Maurice Ryder. This painter has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor. It is alleged that the sexual harassment of the victim started when she was 10 years old and kept on raping her digitally till the accused was arrested.
After the complaint of the victim, the police registered a case against the accused under sections 376, 323, 506 of the IPC and sections 5 and 6 of the POCSO Act. It is alleged that when the victim used to protest, the accused used to beat her. At present the matter is being investigated. What is digital rape and what does it mean?
First of all, let us tell you that this crime was included in the Indian Penal Code through the 2013 Criminal Law Amendment. It is also called Nirbhaya Act. Giving information, the Noida Police said that digital rape does not mean that any boy or girl should be exploited through the Internet. This word is formed by joining two words which are digit and rape. Digit in English means number in Hindi, whereas in English dictionary Digit, finger, thumb, toe, these body parts are also called Digit.
According to experts, if a man tampers with his fingers or thumb without the consent of the woman, then it is called digital rape. Overall, it is meant to say that a person who commits sexual harassment using his digit, then it is called digital rape. Many such cases have come to the fore in foreign countries and the word digital rape has been used a lot and a law has been made for it in our country also.
Sex crime law changed after 2013
This aspect of sexual harassment was included in the definition of rape through the 2013 Criminal Law Amendment which amended and expanded the crime. After the Nirbhaya case in 2012, many changes were made in the law of rape, including this. After 2013, the meaning of rape is not limited to just cohabitation. Now the penetration of a woman to any extent in the mouth, urine area, vagina or anus also comes under the category of rape. Part-B of the Nirbhaya Act specifically states that penetration to any extent, any object or part of the body which is not a gender, is also within the definition of rape.
