Election Commission: After the process of delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission has started the revision of the voter list and the draft voter list will be prepared by August 31. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey conducted a review and directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir to prepare a map of the new boundaries of the assembly constituencies.
There is a need to revise the voter list before the first assembly election of the union territory. Instructions have also been given for the appointment of officers to update the voter list. Re-fixation of serial numbers, after delimitation, determination and renaming of polling stations will be done before June 30. Also, in the villages where there is a need to set up new polling stations, the place for the polling stations will be selected.
Verification of polling stations will be done till July 25
After delimitation, some of the earlier polling stations may come under more than one new assembly constituency or they may be shifted to another area entirely. The appointment of booth level officers and appropriate training will be given by July 5. The verification of polling stations will be done till July 25. Sources said that the draft voter list will be prepared by August 31.
Voter list is being prepared after 3 years
After the year 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir, now the Voter LIst is being revised. 3 years ago from the year 2019, the work of revision of voter list in Jammu and Kashmir was stopped. According to the State Reorganization Act, after the change of delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir, the work of updating the voter list could not be done. Till the year 2019, there were 70 lakh voters in Jammu and Kashmir. Now after three years, those who have completed 18 years of age have not been included in this list. Now after this revision, many youth will be able to participate in it and will be able to vote for the first time in life.
