Jharkhand Politics News: Members of the state’s ruling coalition gathered for a second meeting at his residence on Friday evening, amid speculation about the political future of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Sources close to the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) said the meeting discussed strategies to ensure that there is no threat to the government. Some leaders, on the condition of anonymity, said that to avoid alleged attempts by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to horse-trade the MLAs, as an alternative, they were asked to stay in a resort in a state like West Bengal, Bihar or Chhattisgarh. Alternatives are also being considered.
What did the Election Commission tell the Governor?
He, however, said a decision on future course of action would be taken only after Governor Ramesh Bais conveys to him his decision on the Election Commission’s decision to disqualify Soren as an MLA. According to sources, the Election Commission is believed to have told the Governor that Soren should be disqualified for the post of MLA for violating election norms. However, Raj Bhavan has not officially confirmed this.

Amid the rapidly changing political scenario, sources said on Friday that Bais may send an order disqualifying Soren to the Election Commission on Saturday. Apart from this, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which is leading the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the state, has expressed confidence that Soren will continue as the chief minister till 2024. The party also said that it will approach the Supreme Court in case Soren is disqualified as an MLA.
