Gujarat Elections 2022: All the parties are busy in their election campaign in the Gujarat assembly elections. Voting for 182 assembly seats here is to be held on December 1 and 5. In the first phase to be held on December 1, voting will be held on 89 seats. On the other hand, voting will be held on the remaining seats on December 5. Political parties are busy solving all the equations of Gujarat. In such a situation, the tribal section plays a very important role in the elections in this state, which can change the fortunes of any political party.

Tribals constitute 15 percent of Gujarat’s population, whichever party this community turns to can change the political equation of the state. Although the tribals are considered to be the traditional voters of the Congress, but in the last few elections to the Lok Sabha and Vidhansabha in the state, this vote bank has been scattered from the Congress. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the tribal community had voted more than 50 per cent for the BJP. The major population of this community lives in the eastern districts of Gujarat.

Dang has 95 per cent tribal population, Tapi 84 per cent, Narmada 82 per cent, Dahod 74 per cent, Valsad 53 per cent, Navsari 48 per cent, Bharuch 31 per cent, Panchmahal 30 per cent, Vadodara 28 per cent and Sabarkantha 22 per cent. According to the 2011 census, there are 89.1 lakh tribals in Gujarat, which is 15 percent of the total population of the state.

27 assembly seats reserved

27 assembly seats are reserved for this large population in the state, on which only people of this community can contest elections. Both BJP and Congress candidates have been winning these reserved seats. In the 2017 elections, the Bharatiya Tribal Party had won 2 seats. But the interesting thing is that tribals are not limited to these reserved 27 seats only, but their dominance is believed to be in 35 to 45 seats. There are 47 seats in Gujarat where the tribal population is more than 10 percent. Whereas in all 40 assembly seats, more than 20 percent.

In the last assembly elections, the tribal community had expressed more faith in the Congress. Congress won 15 of these reserved 27 seats, while BJP won 8 seats and BTP won 2 seats, while one seat went to the account of an independent.
