Crime News: A 22-year-old youth was arrested from Dhankot village on Tuesday for allegedly setting a girl on fire two days before the wedding in Gurugram. Police has given this information. According to the police, the accused has been identified as Jaipal alias Billu, a resident of Mehchana village and has confessed to his crime. He will be produced in the local court on Wednesday. The accused said that he was in love with the girl but he never listened to her and did not want her to get married elsewhere.

May 9 morning incident
On Monday, Billu set fire to a 24-year-old girl in her house in Farrukhnagar area here. Police said that the victim, who suffered more than 50 percent burns, is being treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Preet Pal Singh Sangwan said, “On May 7 the accused bought petrol in a bottle and on the morning of May 9, he sprinkled petrol on the girl while she was sleeping and set her on fire. He fled from the spot with the girl’s mobile phone. We have recovered the victim’s mobile and investigation is on.

What did the father say?
The victim’s father Ashok, who works as a daily wage labourer, went to the police and claimed that the accused entered his house and set his daughter on fire. Ashok said, ‘I had left for work this morning. I got a call that Billu has entered the house and set it on fire by pouring petrol on him.

Following the complaint, an FIR under sections 326-A and 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Farrukhnagar police station.
