Gyanvapi Masjid Latest Update: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the District Magistrate of Varanasi to ensure the security of the area inside the Gyanvapi-Sringar Gauri complex where the Shivling is said to be found during the survey. Also, the top court allowed the people of the Muslim community to offer prayers and perform religious rituals there.

The court said that the district magistrate of Varanasi should ensure the security of the area where the Shivling was said to be found and that it does not obstruct Muslims from offering prayers and performing other religious rituals.

Senior advocate Huzefa Ahmadi, appearing for the Gyanvapi Masjid Committee, said that Muslims are required to perform ‘Wuzu’ as without it there would be no meaning of Namaz in Islam.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the UP government, argued that Muslims perform Wudhu at the place where the Shivling is said to be found and any damage can create law and order problems.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said, “If it is necessary, they can perform Wudhu elsewhere but the area where the Shivling has been found needs to be protected.” ,

The Solicitor General told the top court that the plaintiff’s lawyer Harishankar Jain has suffered a heart attack and is hospitalized in Varanasi. The court issued notices to the petitioner Hindu devotees and fixed May 19 for hearing on the petition of the Masjid Committee.
