Himachal Pradesh Election 2022: Former president of the Himachal Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Khimi Ram joined the Congress on Tuesday. Ram, a former minister and former deputy speaker of the state assembly, said he was proud to join the party, which played a key role in achieving the country’s independence.
He said that I am not joining the Congress because of my displeasure with the BJP. I have taken a conscious decision to take the Congress forward in Himachal Pradesh. Ram said that he is confident that the Congress will be able to form the government in the state as the people of the state are very upset about various issues including corruption, unemployment, inflation and pension scheme.
He said that we will raise these issues with the people of the state and help the Congress to form the government in Himachal Pradesh. All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Himachal Pradesh Rajeev Shukla welcomed Khimi Ram to the Congress and said it was a sign of the wind direction in the state. AICC secretary Sudhir Sharma and Tijendra Bittu were also present on the occasion.
When are the elections in Himachal Pradesh?
Assembly elections are to be held in Himachal Pradesh in 2022. According to reports, the Election Commission may organize elections in December. However, elections in Himachal Pradesh are to be held in December 2017. The term of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is ending on 8 January 2023. There are total 68 assembly seats in the state. In the assembly elections held earlier, a total voter turnout of 75.28 percent was recorded.
