Shubman Gill West Indies vs India, 3rd ODI: Indian team opener Shubman Gill played brilliant innings in the first two matches of the three-match ODI series against West Indies, where he scored 64 and 43 runs respectively. When people were talking about Rituraj Gaikwad or Ishaan Kishan, Shikhar Dhawan was the opening partner for the series. Gill turned out to be a surprise pick for the team.
I am feeling very confident about my batting. We couldn’t practice much after the Test series in England as both our practice sessions were over here, but once I batted in the ODIs, I felt confident with the way I was playing .
Before the third match, Gill said, “Two ODI innings were my confidence booster. West Indies are a good team and we contributed to the team in two matches. One while batting and the other while chasing runs. It has helped in boosting my confidence, I hope to do better in the third match.”
He further said, “I started the innings with Dhawan, which gave us hope to do better. Maybe in the third match also I will get a chance to play as an opener with the captain. I started well in the previous matches and I kept going but unfortunately I could not convert it into 100, due to which I was angry with myself how I got out.
Gill admitted that achieving 300-plus scores in both innings at the Queen’s Park Oval has helped him deliver his best performance with the bat.
Gill also spoke about how head coach Rahul Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathor are helping him improve during the practice sessions. I keep having conversations with both the coaches about my batting. Vikram sir gives my inputs on my technique and the areas I can work on. Rahul sir gives advice on handling situations and share his experience with me as he has played cricket all over the world.
