India Abstained At UNHRC On Resolution Against China Xinjiang Uyghur Muslim Matter Five Reasons

India-China Relations: Relations between India and China have been going bad for a long time. China has been making rhetoric against India on every occasion or voting in international forums. Meanwhile, a move by India in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has surprised everyone. A resolution was brought against China in the UNHRC on the issue of atrocities against Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang province of China. During this, India abstained from voting. Now the question is, why did India distance itself from voting against China, which stands against India in every matter? Opposition leaders have also attacked this move of India fiercely. Let us tell you five big reasons for this.

  • Relations between China and India have been very tense for a long time. The armies of both the countries were face to face on the Galwan issue. After several months of tension, now the process of disengagement between the armies of both the countries has started. Meanwhile, by voting against China, India does not want to bring bitterness in relations again.
  • This stand of India on China also shows India’s side regarding China’s One China policy. India does not want to be involved in any way in what China is doing against the Uighurs in Xinjiang. Voting against or in favor of China would have made India’s stand clear on this issue, maybe that is why the distance from voting was made.
  • However, this attitude of India has been with regard to many countries in the past as well. India’s stand on such issues in the UAHRC has been neutral several times in the past. One reason for not voting against China can also be that in the coming times, India also wants the same from China. That is, if a resolution is brought against India, then it may be that China should also stay away from it.
  • This decision of India on China is also being seen from the point of view of America. Since the F-16 deal with Pakistan, India has been speaking openly against America. Now India’s stand on China’s stand in UNHRC can also be a diplomatic answer to America.
  • Like China, India had recently abstained from voting on the resolution brought against Sri Lanka. This resolution was introduced against Sri Lanka regarding reconciliation, accountability and human rights on the economic crisis. In this, India did not participate in the voting. Whereas China and Pakistan voted against Sri Lanka.

Opposition attacked the government
The opposition has attacked the government fiercely for its absence from voting in the UNHRC against China. Congress leader Manish Tewari tweeted that, why is there such a difference in the case of China? The government is not ready to discuss the Chinese infiltration in Parliament. India is abstaining from voting against China. The government is not giving clearance to any member of Parliament to travel to Taiwan. Apart from Tiwari, Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi also attacked the government. He wrote on Twitter – “Hindi – Chinese brother – brother. Journey from red eye to closed eye…”

Recently, a report from the UN attracted the attention of the whole world. The report told how atrocities are being committed against Uighur Muslims in China’s Xinjiang province. China has kept many Uyghurs in the detention centers here and they are also being subjected to sexual atrocities. China was heavily criticized for this matter.
