Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana will retire on 26 August. He appointed Justice Uday Umesh Lalit (Judicial) for the next CJI as his successor today.Justice Uday Umesh Lalit) name is recommended. If Justice Ramana’s recommendation is accepted, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit will become the 49th CJI of the country.
Justice UU Lalit is currently the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court. He was born on November 9, 1957. Justice Uday Umesh Lalit has been a well-known lawyer of Maharashtra. He started advocacy in June 1983. He practiced in the Bombay High Court till December 1985 and reached Delhi a year later i.e. in 1986 and started practicing law in the capital. He has also worked with former Attorney General Soli Sorabji.
Justice Lalit became a senior advocate of the Supreme Court in April 2004. After that he held several positions. On 13 August 2014, he was appointed as the highest Supreme Court judge.
