Malegaon Blast Case Update: An officer of the Indian Army, who has family ties to Lt Col Prasad Purohit, accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, during the hearing here on Thursday. He retracted from his statement. In this way, he is the 25th witness to turn back during the hearing. Let us tell you that on 29 September 2008, six people were killed and 90 others were injured in an explosion near a mosque in Malegaon town of northern Maharashtra.
Special Judge A.K. He deposed before Lahoti on Thursday and identified Purohit, who was present in the court. The officer further said that the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) had questioned him in connection with the case, but never recorded his statement. A witness produced by the investigating agency is said to have turned hostile when he does not support the prosecution’s case in court.
Army officer gave this statement to ATS
According to the records, the ATS had recorded the statement of the said army officer in three pages, in which it was claimed that he had seen documents related to Abhinav Bharat Sangathan in Purohit’s house. In the statement, the army officer also claimed to have dropped Purohit and another former army officer at the site of Abhinav Bharat’s camp in Panchgani in October 2008.

Let us inform that apart from Purohit, the other accused in the case include Pragya Singh Thakur, a Lok Sabha member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur). They are all out on bail. Pragya Singh Thakur is the main accused in the case. On 29 September 2008, a bomb exploded outside a mosque in Malegaon town of Maharashtra, killing 6 people and injuring around 100. The ATS made the first arrest in this case on 23 October 2008. ATS caught Sadhvi and two of her associates. After which the ATS filed a charge sheet in this case on 20 January 2009. The Central Government handed over the matter to the NIA on 1 April 2011.
