In the direct system, there is no scope for manipulation of councilors, horse-trading. When elections are held impartially, the public gets a chance to choose their mayor-president. He said there has been an ordinance to replace the Old Testament. The commissioner has been informed about this. In the year 2019, the then Kamal Nath government amended the Madhya Pradesh Municipality Act and abolished the direct election of mayor, municipality and city council presidents. That is, the rule of conducting elections to these posts from councilors had come into force, which is still in effect today.
Ordinance will come to conduct elections through direct system
In the election process of the State Election Commission till now, only indirect system is being adopted. For this, changes will be made by bringing an ordinance and will be passed by the assembly. After changing the Kamal Nath government, the Shivraj government had brought an ordinance to change the election decision through indirect system. In December 2020, the ordinance was also passed by the cabinet, but due to non-passing of the bill from the assembly, the ordinance itself lapsed. Now Shivraj government is going to reverse the old decision of Kamal Nath government.
