Mumbai Crime News: A shocking case of misbehavior with an elderly woman has come to light in Mumbai. A 36-year-old man has been arrested on charges of attempt to murder for allegedly brutally assaulting his 65-year-old mute and deaf mother. According to the police, Inshin Mascarenhas, a retired sweeper in the Indian Railways, was torturing his alcoholic son Jason for the past five years.

Doctors treating Mascarenhas have told police that repeated attacks have caused mental health problems for the elderly woman. The police found Mascarenhas unconscious at Jehangir Bagh on Veer Savarkar Road in Mahim on June 3 after receiving information from a person. Mascarenhas had injuries on his face and scalp and upon further investigation, police learned that he was being frequently assaulted by his son.

A neighbor said that Mascarenhas was born with hearing and speech disabilities. Her son used to beat her up but we never realized that she was being abused as she could not speak. This time, we figured it out because to escape the attack, she opened the door and fell on the ground, after which she fainted. Seeing the condition of Mascarenhas, the neighbors caught Jason. While the victim was taken to Bhabha Hospital. The police later took Jason into custody. Hospital officials told police that Mascarenhas had been brought to the hospital a few days ago by his son, who claimed she was injured after falling in their home.

Police said Mascarenhas’s husband was also hearing and speech impaired and that he worked on the railways. After the death of her husband, she was offered a job as a sweeper in the Railways on compassionate grounds. A police officer said she had retired five years ago. We have been told that he got around Rs 13 lakh for his post-retirement. He also gets a pension of Rs 15,000-20,000 per month. But both his sons are addicted to alcohol. His younger son is often missing and the elder son (Jason) used to stay with him.

Jason was arrested on June 4, after which he was sent to police custody. During interrogation, it was revealed that Jason often used to beat up his mother between 1st and 10th of every month and snatched her pension. According to the Indian Express, the police said that on June 3, he had beaten his mother so badly that the stick broke, but he continued to beat her with the broken stick.
