The Anti-Terrorist Squad ATS has arrested a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist from Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly conducting a recce of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s RSS headquarters Dr. Hedgewar Smriti Bhavan in Nagpur last year. An official provided this information on Wednesday.

He said that the accused Sheikh had done a partial recce of Hedgewar Smriti Bhawan located in Reshmibagh area of ​​Nagpur and sent the video of the building to his handler based in Pakistan. The ATS recently detained Rais Ahmed Sheikh (26), a resident of Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, and is being questioned for the past two days, the official said.

Shaikh told investigators that a man named Umar was his handler. Umar is said to be the operational commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed based in Nawabpur, Pakistan. The official said Shaikh had reached here on July 23, 2021 on a Delhi-Mumbai-Nagpur flight and had stayed at a hotel in Sitabuldi area. Sheikh was assured by his handler that a local person in Nagpur would contact him and help him.

The officer said that no one had contacted Sheikh in Nagpur, so he himself carried out the inspection and recce work. He said that on July 14, Sheikh reached Reshmibagh with the help of Google Map, whose ‘location’ was provided to him by his master.
