Punjab Politics: Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab Raghav Chadha on Thursday met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and demanded withdrawal of GST imposed on inns. Along with this, during this meeting, Raghav Chadha has also demanded a special financial package from the central government to get rid of the problem of ground water in Punjab.

During the meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha has demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision to impose 12 percent GST on the Sarai near the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Why is there resentment among the followers of Sikhism?
In his memorandum to the Finance Minister, Chadha wrote that the central government’s decision to levy 12 per cent GST on the sarais built near the Golden Temple has caused displeasure among the followers of Sikhism and devotees from across the country who visit Shri Darbar Sahib. According to Raghav, the Finance Minister gave assurance during this meeting that their demands would be considered.

What was demanded of the farmers?
During this meeting, Raghav Chadha also demanded from the Finance Minister to give a special financial package for the farmers. At the same time, referring to the issue of rapidly depleting ground water, he said that the central government needs to pay attention to this problem at the earliest to save the farmers of Punjab.
