Raghav Chadha Meets Nirmala Sitharaman: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi on Thursday. Chadha has urged Sitharaman to withdraw the 12 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) levied on inns located near the Golden Temple in Amritsar. In June, the GST Council had decided that 12 per cent GST would be levied on all hotels providing rooms for a day for less than Rs 1,000.

Demand to withdraw GST
Aam Aadmi Party tweeted that Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab Raghav Chadha has met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Raghav handed over a letter to him regarding the withdrawal of the decision of levying 12 per cent GST on the inns located near the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday criticized the central government for imposing GST on inns. He had said that the government was targeting the devotees staying at the inns located near the Golden Temple.

Bhagwant Mann criticized the government
Terming the decision of the GST Council as arbitrary and illogical, Mann had said that several inns, including Guru Gobind Singh NRI Niwas, Baba Deep Singh Niwas and Mata Bhag Kaur Niwas, are associated with the Golden Temple. He said that these inns have always been an integral part of the Gurudwara complex.
