UK PM Election Update: Indian-origin Rishi Sunak, who is in the race for the post of British Prime Minister, on Wednesday promised that he would take strong action against Islamic extremism. Describing Islamic extremism as Britain’s “Greatest Threat”, he said he would expand the current official definition of extremism and strengthen anti-terror laws.
Sunak, 42, a former finance minister, seems to be bridging the gap with his rival Liz Truss in the race for the prime minister’s post. He also pledged to destroy organizations promoting extremism in Britain. Sunak said he would also refocus on the “failing” prohibitory program being used as the government’s weapon to combat Islamic extremism.
“There is no duty more important for a prime minister than to keep our country and people safe,” he said as part of an ongoing campaign to win the votes of Conservative Party members.
,we will never let those people succeed,
Sunak said, “Whether it is to redouble efforts to combat Islamic extremism or to deal with people spreading hatred in our country, I will do whatever is necessary to fulfill this duty. Britain is a beacon of freedom, tolerance and diversity. We will never allow those who want to undermine or destroy our lifestyle to succeed.
The ‘ReadyForRishy’ campaign team has presented a “detailed ambitious plan” to protect the UK from terrorism and combat Islamic extremism.
