Sheena Bora CaseThe Supreme Court on Wednesday granted bail to Indrani Mukerjea in the murder case of her daughter Sheena Bora. He is the main accused in the case. Justice L. Nageswara Rao, Justice B. R. Gavai and Justice A. s. Bopanna’s bench said that the hearing of the matter is not likely to be completed soon. The bench said, “Allegations have been made against the petitioner that he had hatched a conspiracy to kill his daughter on account of her having an affair with Rahul Mukherjee. Rahul is the son of Peter Mukerjea and his ex-wife.

He said, “We are not commenting on the merits of the petition. Even if the prosecution presents 50 percent of the witnesses, the trial will not end soon. They will be released on bail on being satisfied by the trial court. The conditions imposed on Peter Mukerjea will apply to him too.” Indrani Mukerjea has been lodged in Byculla Women’s Prison in Mumbai since her arrest in August 2015. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appeared for Indrani Mukerjea in the court.

Rohatgi said the trial is not going to be completed soon as a large number of witnesses are yet to be examined. The Special Court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is hearing the Sheena Bora murder case, has rejected Indrani’s bail plea several times.

Sheena Bora (24) was allegedly strangled to death by Mukherjee, her driver Shyamvar Rai and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna in a car in April 2012. His body was burnt in a forest in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Former media baron Peter Mukerjea was also arrested for being a part of this conspiracy. He was granted bail by the High Court in February 2020. However, he got divorced from Indrani Mukerjea during his stay in jail.
