what farmers have to say
Farmers of 32 villages residing in Karera Sonchiriya Sanctuary area under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union, took out a march on foot in the scorching sun and submitted a written memorandum to Sub-Divisional Officer Dinesh Chandra Shukla. The protesting farmers say that since 1981 till date, 202.2 square kilometer land of 32 villages coming under the sanctuary has been declared as Son Chiraiya Protected Area. For this reason, the farmers residing there cannot buy and sell their land. He says that he cannot even lift soil from his own farm for his own use. Whereas under the guise of sanctuary, the spirits of sand mafia are high. Illegal excavation of sand worth lakhs of rupees is being done every day by the leader and his people. This is giving rise to many problems in the area. If this area is not freed from the sanctuary soon, then this movement will be more fierce.
