Sonali Phogat Death: Goa’s famous Anjuna beach-based restaurant ‘Curleys’ was in the news 14 years ago when a British teenager died. BJP leader Sonali Phogat had gone to this restaurant before returning to her hotel and complaining of restlessness.

Sonali Phogat (42) had gone to ‘Curley’s’ restaurant on Monday night and was brought dead on the morning of August 23 from her hotel at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Anjuna in North Goa district. Earlier it was believed that Phogat died of a heart attack but now it is being seen as a case of murder. Two associates of Phogat have been arrested by Anjuna police in the case.

‘Curlies’ restaurant was also in the news in 2008
The ‘Curlies’ restaurant also came into limelight in 2008 during the investigation into the death of a British girl, Scarlett Eden Keeling. Keeling’s mother claimed at the time that her daughter had said she had gone to ‘Curlies’ after which she was sexually assaulted and left to die on a beach.

Lawyer Vikram Verma, representing Keeling’s mother Fiona McKeown, told PTI on Thursday, “The evidence on record appears to suggest that Scarlett Keeling was taken to Louis’ shack after ‘Curleys’. where she died.”

Sonali was taken to ‘Curley’s’ restaurant by the two arrested accused
At the same time, after the death of Sonali Phogat, a resident of Hisar, Haryana, now this restaurant is in discussion again. Sonali Phogat’s nephew Mohinder Phogat has claimed that the two arrested accused, Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Vasi, had taken Sonali to ‘Curlies’. Mohinder also said, “He (Sonali) was told that a person from Haryana works in ‘Curlies’ whom he wanted to meet.” Mohinder said that Sonali walked straight from ‘Curlies’ to her hotel room. From where she was taken to the hospital the next morning. Mohinder said that Sonali had complained of uneasiness after reaching the hotel.

What the owner of ‘Curlies’ said
‘Curlies’ owner Edwin Nunes confirmed that Sonali had come to his restaurant along with others. Nunes said, “None of our staff knew him. They were like normal customers to us.” Nunes said that after Sonali’s death, she was questioned by the Goa Police about Sonali’s presence in her restaurant. Nunes said, “I told the police they were just like any other customer to us.”

Let us inform that Sonali Phogat reached Goa on 22 August with her companions Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Vasi. After Sonali Phogat’s post-mortem report mentioned “multiple injuries” on the body, Goa Police has registered a murder charge against both Sonali’s associates.
