Former India veteran opener and veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar wants the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider senior players who want rest before an important series. He said that when he can play non-stop IPL cricket for more than two months, then why are he shying away from playing for the country.

Let us tell you that there have been reports that some senior players, including former India captain Virat Kohli, have requested the BCCI to rest them from the five-match T20 series against West Indies starting later this month.

Kohli is not a part of the three-match ODI series of that tour. According to reports, he also wants to rest for the T20I series starting from July 29. Questioning the alleged demand to drop some senior players from the T20 series, Gavaskar said that he does not agree with it.

Gavaskar said, “I do not agree with this. You will not rest during IPL and then you will take rest from playing for India. I do not agree with this logic. You have to play for India. T20 match is on your body. Doesn’t make any impact.”

Gavaskar further said, “Your body gets tired in Test cricket, but batting and fielding in T20 matches is not a difficult thing. So there is no problem in it. BCCI should reconsider its policy on players’ demand for rest .

He said, “Every A-grade or A+ grade players get a huge retainer fee from BCCI. Apart from the contract, the players get paid huge for playing matches. Tell me, which company or corporate is its CEO. , makes such payments to directors or managing directors. Is there any company which pays such a high salary for not working?”. Gavaskar felt that if Indian cricket was to become more professional, it would have to consider it.
