Ashok Pillar: Controversy has started regarding the National Emblem installed in the new Parliament Building in Delhi. Opposition parties have alleged that the appearance of the national emblem has been changed in the new Parliament building. On this, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has responded by tweeting to the opposition. He said that the original emblem at Sarnath is 1.6 meters high, while the emblem on top of the new Parliament House is huge and 6.5 meters high.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri retaliated on the allegations of the opposition regarding the national emblem. He said that if the size of the National Emblem located in Sarnath is increased or the size of the emblem on the new Parliament House is reduced, then there will be no difference between the two.

Union Minister told the difference

The minister tweeted that if a person looks at the Sarnath symbol from below, he will appear as calm or angry as is being told. He said that if a real replica of the original emblem is placed on the new building, it will not be visible from afar. He said the ‘experts’ should also be aware that the original emblem placed at Sarnath is on the ground while the new emblem is at a height of 33 meters from the ground.

Opposition accused of changing lions

Opposition parties and activists accused the government of changing the look of the national emblem by depicting fiery lions in place of the ‘attractive and majestic’ lions of Ashoka’s lot. He demanded to change it immediately. Puri’s ministry is tasked with the construction of the new Parliament building under the Central Vista Redevelopment Project. There is a need to appreciate the effect of angle, height and measurement when comparing the two structures, he said.
