UP BJP New Chief: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday appointed Uttar Pradesh government minister Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary as the state unit president of the party, according to an official statement issued by the party. BJP national general secretary Arun Singh said in a statement that the party’s national president JP Nadda has appointed Bhupendra Singh Bhupendra Singh Choudhary as the party’s president in Uttar Pradesh.
The appointment of Bhupendra Singh Choudhary is being seen as an attempt to woo the politically influential Jat community. It is to be known that the Jat community had played a leading role in the one-year-long agitation in the capital Delhi and other parts of the country against the controversial three agricultural laws of the central government. With the appointment of Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, Uttar Pradesh has become the third state, where BJP has entrusted the responsibility of the post of state president to Jat leaders. Haryana’s state president Om Prakash Dhankhar and Rajasthan state president Satish Punia come from the Jat community. Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary had met Nadda late on Wednesday evening. He is the Minister of Panchayati Raj in the Council of Ministers of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

His appointment is also being seen as an attempt by the BJP to cut off the Rashtriya Lok Dal and Samajwadi Party alliance in Jat-dominated western Uttar Pradesh. There are 29 Lok Sabha seats in Western Uttar Pradesh.

Initially he was a member of Vishwa Hindu Parishad but later in 1991 he joined BJP. He has held several positions including the party’s Moradabad district unit president and treasurer.
In the year 1999, he contested the Lok Sabha elections against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav but he had to face defeat. In the year 2016, he was made a member of the State Legislative Council. He was also the Minister of Panchayati Raj in the previous government led by Yogi Adityanath. As a minister, he is credited with building a record number of toilets in Uttar Pradesh under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and making all 75 districts of the state defecation free.
