UP News: Basti district will be named after the land...

UP News: Basti district will be named after the land of Maharishi Vashistha, the total guru of Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ram. The exercise to change the name of the district to Vashisht Nagar has intensified. Two days ago on May 26, the district administration has again sent the proposal to change the name of the district to the Revenue Council. Now the expenditure on this will not be borne by the government but the department itself. The biggest obstacle was the proposal to change the name, which has now been removed.

Change of name will cost one crore
In fact, after the renaming of Allahabad and Faizabad two years ago, in the year 2019, the demand for changing the name of Basti district to Vashisht Nagar started gaining momentum. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced to rename the medical college open in Basti after Maharishi Vashisht, then it got more strength. On the initiative of MP Harish Dwivedi, MLA Ajay Singh and Sanjay Pratap Jaiswal, the Revenue Council sought a proposal to change the name of the district. In this sequence, on 16 November 2019, this proposal was sent by the then District Magistrate Ashutosh Niranjan. When the government asked for information about the expenditure on name change, a huge expenditure of one crore was told. Due to which this process could not move forward and this proposal went in cold storage.

Department will bear the cost
In support of the proposal, it was told on behalf of the District Magistrate that from the perusal of Wikipedia available on the Internet, it is known that in ancient times, Putreshti Yagya was performed by King Dasharatha in Makhoda with the inspiration of Maharishi Vashistha. After this, the four sons of King Dasharatha, Shri Ram, Bharat, Lakshmana and Shatrughna were born. The initial education of the four brothers took place in their Gurukul itself. Due to the ashram of Maharishi Vashisht, the total guru of Lord Shri Ram, it was named Vashishti in ancient times due to the ashram in this area. In view of the above, there is no administrative objection in renaming Basti district as Vashisht Nagar or Vashishti. Actually, this name has been taken from Maharishi Vashistha, the Kulguru of Lord Shri Ram. In 1865, after separating it from Gorakhpur, Basti was made a district and in the year 1997, Mandal. After obtaining consent from all the departments of the district, a proposal to change the name of Basti district has been sent to the government two days ago. The expenditure on this will now be borne by the department itself.
