1984 Anti-Sikh Riots: Rapid arrests are being made after the investigation of the SIT in the Kanpur Anti-Sikh Riots case. The first 6 accused were arrested by the SIT. In this sequence, now five more accused Jaswant Singh, Ramesh Chandra, Ravi Shankar, Bhola and Ganga Baksh Singh have been arrested. These arrests have happened in connection with the incident in Nirala Nagar. Five arrests have been made in the incident from Kidwai Nagar and its surrounding area. At the same time, SIT will arrest 63 more such accused in the coming time.

127 people died

In fact, 127 people were murdered in Kanpur in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. At the same time, the houses of many people were burnt and there was a lot of looting. At that time many FIRs were registered but none of the accused could be caught. Since then, the Sikh community continued to plead for justice. Many governments came, many commissions were formed, many SITs were formed but the arrest of any accused could not be possible.

A total of 11 arrests have been made so far.

In 2019, the Yogi Adityanath government once again formed the SIT to investigate the riots. The SIT found 11 such cases for investigation in which sufficient evidence was available. The SIT collected evidence for continuous investigation. As a result of which he got enough evidence and witnesses in 11 cases. After which the names of 96 accused came out. Out of which 22 people have died, the remaining 74 were to be arrested. Out of these 74 people, 11 people have been arrested now. Rest of the accused will be arrested soon.

Victims demanded to operate a bulldozer

DIG Balendra Bhushan, in-charge of the Sikh riots SIT, said that this has been possible only due to the intention of the government. The government extended the tenure of the SIT 6 times. The Sikh community seems satisfied after the arrests started in the same riot cases. Sikh riot victims say that the old governments only worked to play with their sentiments. This is the reason why no one could be arrested. None of the lawsuits came to a proper conclusion. Now they are getting justice in Yogi ji’s government. On the other hand, the victims have now demanded to run a bulldozer on the property of the arrested accused.
