Civil Services Vacancies: There are more than 2300 vacancies of IAS and IPS in the country, which can be filled soon. Minister in the Central Government Jitendra Singh told the Parliament that as of January 1, 2022, 1,472 posts are vacant in the Indian Administrative Service and 864 in the Indian Police Service in different states. Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh gave this information while answering a question.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister Jitendra Singh informed that in order to ensure optimum intake of directly recruited IAS officers, the government has decided to conduct their recruitment through Civil Services Examination (CSE) based on the recommendations of Baswan Committee. The annual recruitment has been increased to 180. He pointed out that the committee had recommended that any number above 180 would “compromise on quality”. Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration will exceed the capacity and create distortion in the career pyramid of IAS officers.

Vacancy creation and filling is a continuous process
The minister said that as of January 1, 2022, there are 1,472 vacancies in IAS and 864 in IPS in different states. He said, the occurrence of vacancies and filling them is a continuous process. It is the effort of the Central Government to fill the vacancies in the cadre. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Civil Services Examination every year to fill vacancies in the category of IAS and IPS on direct recruitment basis.
