Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (Intelligence) Devendra Singh Chouhan took charge as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) on Friday. He started work as the acting DGP on Friday, two days after DGP Mukul Goyal was removed from his post.

Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Avnish Kumar Awasthi, in an order issued on Thursday, had told that the 1988 batch IPS officer Chauhan has been given additional charge of DGP of the state till he gets a permanent appointment to the post of Director General of Police. He will also continue to hold the responsibility of Director General of Police (Intelligence).

Mukul Goel was on Wednesday removed from the post of DGP and posted as Director General (Civil Defense) on charges of dereliction of duty. In the order issued by the state government, it was said that Goyal has been removed from the post of DGP for not taking interest in departmental work and neglecting government work.

After Goyal’s removal, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar was given additional charge of the post of DGP.
