Vice President Election 2022: Recently, on July 21, the election of the next President of the Republic of India was completed. Draupadi Murmu was elected the new President of the country. President’s Electoral College-
The President is elected by the members of an electoral college. The President’s Electoral College consists of elected members of both the Houses of Parliament (Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha), elected members of the State Legislative Assemblies, elected members of the Union Territory of Delhi and Puducherry Legislative Assemblies.
Vice-President’s electoral college-
Like the President, the Vice-President is not elected by direct method.
All the members of both the houses of Parliament (Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha) participate in the electoral college of the Vice-President.
Difference between the electoral college of the President and the Vice-President
As mentioned above, looking at the electoral college of the President and the Vice President, it is clear that more representatives vote in the election of the President.
Where only all the members of both the houses of Parliament are involved in the election of the Vice-President, in addition to the elected members of the Parliament, in the election of the President, the members of the State-Assembly also have to vote. In such a situation, the size of the President’s electoral college is very large.
The members of the State Legislative Assembly are not included in the electoral college of the Vice-President while they vote in the election of the President.
– Nominated members of Parliament who are unable to vote in the election of the President have the right to vote in electing the Vice-President.
