Visvesvaraya Bhavan Fire: A fire broke out in the Visvesvaraya Bhawan in Patna, the capital of Bihar, on Wednesday, although no casualty has been reported in it. It is a huge multi – storeyed building where offices of various important establishments including the offices of various departments of the government are also located . A senior official gave this information. According to Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh, the fire broke out on the fifth floor of this seven-storey building this morning due to a short circuit, which was brought under control after a few hours.

The District Magistrate said, ‘Security personnel noticed smoke coming out of the fifth floor at around 7.30 am and they immediately informed the fire department. Several fire tenders were pressed into service and NDRF personnel were also deployed for the rescue work. He said that there were not many people inside the building when the fire broke out and two children of construction workers engaged in the repair work were rescued.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also reached after hearing the news of the fire.
At the same time, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also reached Visvesvaraya Bhawan after hearing the news of the fire. While talking to the media, he said, “In view of the flames here, I have come here to take stock of the situation. Nitish Kumar said, in future all the safe fire safety equipment will be kept here. Director General of Police (Fire) Shobha Ahotkar, who reached the spot, said that during the operation a fire brigade has suffered injuries and has been sent to the hospital for treatment.

Situated a few meters away from the Secretariat building and several highly exclusive residences, Visvesvaraya Bhavan houses the offices of departments such as Rural Works and Road Development apart from several other prominent establishments. The damage caused to the records and documents in the incident is being assessed.
