Gary Balance apologizes to Azim Rafiq for racist remarks: England cricketer Gary Ballance has apologized to Azim Rafiq over the racist remarks made by his former Yorkshire teammate. In a statement in November, 32-year-old Balance admitted to using racist remarks against Rafiq. He has personally apologized during his meeting with Rafiq in London.

Balance, who represented England in 23 Tests and 16 ODIs, last played for Yorkshire in September last year. In June this year, the ECB along with six other individuals and the club were accused of defaming the game, following initial allegations of racism and harassment leveled by Rafiq at the club.

I wanted to apologize to Rafiq – Gary Balance

Gary Balance said, “I have wanted to meet Azim in person for a long time. I apologize unconditionally to Azim for the words that I used while playing together. I can understand that at that time Rafiq What would you have felt?”

He said, “I sometimes used unacceptable racist language. Had I realized how much it would hurt Azim, I would never have made such a comment. That’s why I wanted to meet him this week and personally talk about my mistakes.” I wanted to apologize for that.”

He further said, “I have admitted from the beginning that the words used by me were wrong and I hope this statement will bring some relief to Azim.”

Azim Rafiq gave this answer

Rafiq has forgiven Balance and said that his former teammate should be commended for his honesty. Rafiq said, “Gary has shown bravery by apologizing. He should be commended for his honesty and apology and now he should be allowed to move on in his life.”
